Relic Coffee
Sometimes LOVE is most obvious in the details.
Recently, my family and I embarked on a month long road trip across the United States. And when travelling for such a long time, we try to make the most of the journey. Which usually means coffee shops and parks along the drive. We stopped at Relic Coffee on our last day of the road trip. We were exhausted, crabby, and, honestly, just wishing to get home. We were, sort of, in that daze where your eyes begin to gloss over because you've been staring out at the concrete road for so long. But we stopped because we needed a little pick me up and Relic happened to be the one we decided to stop at.
Grouchy us walked into this tiny coffee shop in the middle of an Augusta neighborhood, I ordered for the both of us, and plopped myself down on a stool to wait for our order. Relic was celebrating their one year anniversary. Each time someone walked in the baristas would greet them and let them know about the celebration. They also would direct you to the menu. So as I waited, I picked up a menu to see what else (other than coffee) they sold.
Homemade Ecuadorian pastries. Alternative milks to add to your coffee made in house. Smoothies with only fresh fruit and in house milk. Woah! I was stunned by the details this menu included to make it just that much more special than a typical coffee shop! It wasn't just Oatly brand oat milk (nothing against it!), but it was homemade cashew milk made fresh each day. It wasn't just banana bread, it was gusanitos. Everything from the house made milks to the featured Ecuadorian coffee blends in all their drinks really made the place feel different. Like it had that "je ne sais quoi" about it.
I began to look around at the merchandise and all of it highlighted different parts of coffee culture all relating back to its Ecuadorian roots. It was the attention to detail that snapped me out of my grumpy daze, showed me this shop's LOVE for coffee and its culture, and thus showed me LOVE. And that was enough to make the remainder of our drive much more enjoyable!
