Sweat and Friends

There is something interesting that happens when we work hard to achieve. LOVE.

In October, some of my friends and I reunited after a long while. We sat around a table and we admonished the things that had been poking at us in life. It was kind of like pulling out splinters. All different, but all splinters to each. We talked about feeling stagnant. We talked about feeling uninspired. We talked about passions unfulfilled in the current state of life. We wanted the next chapter to hold more for us. We wanted to create. At yet, we found ourselves stuck in the present moment.

Fast forward. Recently, I caught up with one of these same friends at a party. She was doing it! She was moving … to Europe. She found the courage to tell her boss. She found contentment in the work she had done here. She was reminded that she had saved enough to support the idea. So she was doing it! Through a little bit of sweat, droplets of WATER falling off of her, she decided to chase her dream and move to Europe.

Recently, I called one of these same friends. She was doing it! She found a space and a friend to create something new. She bought furniture to make clients feel comfortable. She reimagined the client interface, providing slippers so that visitors could take their shoes off as if they were at home. She cultivated a brand. So she started doing it! Hauling in her photography gear, little droplets of WATER falling off of her, she decided to paint her dream.

It was night and day since that afternoon in October. Stagnant to achieving dreams. I don’t know exactly what it was for them, if it was a book or a friend or something else, that pushed them to work hard and start to achieve their dreams. But, I know that it was work. The work caused some sweat, but as those little droplets of WATER accumulated they began to achieve.

And in return for their work, I found LOVE. I got to watch friends dream and live their dreams. I got to believe in dreaming again, in desires again, in LOVE again. All it took was little droplets of WATER for me to find LOVE again.

Because really, what is LOVE but just a collection of dreams and desires we work hard to achieve?
